Accelerator Brașov: Fabulating About a Gelato Machine exhibition opens on  November 10th at the Brașov Art Museum

November 06, 2023

Three months after the launch of Accelerator Brașov, mentorship program for emerging artists implemented by Eastwards Prospectus Cultural Association, we are pleased to announce the opening of Fabulating About a Gelato Machine exhibition. The group exhibition marks the final stage of the mentorship program and the opening take place on November 10th at the Art Museum in Brașov, 21 Eroilor Boulevard, between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM.

The ten emerging artists who are part of the program, Alexandra Boaru, Adrian Cojocaru, Alexandru Daniel Florea, Denis Flueraru, Iulia Jugaru, Mălina Moncea, Irina Motroc, Diana Roșca, Ioana Rusu, and Anca Țintea investigate the mechanisms of memory and how certain past events have influenced their artistic practice. Without being able to describe in detail the place or exact coordinates of the events that led to the formation of their own identities, each of the ten artists, as part of the exhibition, offers their perspective on how life stories are created within memory through the exploration of the past.

„I wore two hats within the Accelerator Brașov project – one as the coordinator of the mentorship program and the other as the curator of the group exhibition. In my role as a curator, also at the beginning of my career, I better understood, during the two months of working with the artists, how I could create a safe space for them to develop their artistic practice. In my role as the coordinator of the mentorship program, I wanted, alongside the project team, to provide young artists at the beginning of their careers with the necessary tools to evolve. Accelerator Brașov started from the premise that the education acquired in Romanian universities is insufficient for young artists to develop their careers successfully. That’s why we approached them with theoretical knowledge related to the contemporary art system and market, PR and communication in art, and the curator-artist relationship in thematic workshops, as well as practical exercises during the mentorship sessions,” explains Georgia Țidorescu, the exhibition curator and coordinator of the mentorship program within Accelerator Brașov.

Eastwards Prospectus Cultural Association has been supporting ten emerging artists from Romania since the beginning of the program, who were selected through an open call, by:

  • Four workshops took place from September 18th to 21st at the Brașov Art Museum. The main topics: The Contemporary Art Market and Funding Opportunities (facilitated by Andrei Breahnă, cultural manager); The Contemporary Art System (Mihaela Chiriac, independent curator); Curatorship: The Relationship Between Artist and Curator (Led by Georgia Țidorescu, independent curator); PR, Communication in Art, and Writing in the Context of the Artistic Practice (Ioana Chira, communicator).
  • One-on-one mentoring sessions with the four mentors: Andrei Breahnă, cultural manager, Ioana Chira, communicator, Mihaela Chiriac, independent curator, and Georgia Țidorescu, independent curator.
  • Financial support for the production of new works that will be exhibited in the Fabulating About a Gelato Machine exhibition at Brașov Art Museum from November 10, 2023, to February 25, 2024.
