- Date of the event: 5 October 2024, between 18:00-19:00 (sunset)
Venue: beach in front of the former children’s camp in Năvodari
In full autumn, at sunset, the public is invited by the artist to the beach near the notorious Summer Camp, a once-vibrant hub for children during the communist era, to participate in Dumitrița Răzlog’s project, “Digging for an Indefinite Future”.
The project draws inspiration from the bas-reliefs created in the 1970s on the walls of the former camp. The artist relocates recognizable elements of socialist realism from the now-ruined landmark to the beach where the event will occur. This juxtaposition of the ever-changing sand constructions and the vanished summer camp creates a striking parallel between the fleeting nature of time and place.
This public art project is the second in this Accelerator edition. The first artwork was presented in Baia Mare on 22 September, by the artist Roxana Morar.
The current edition of Accelerator is dedicated entirely to art in public spaces. Before this stage (presentation of the artwork), which is currently being rolled-out, the artists completed a complex mentoring session, that covered topics customised to this practice.
The project is co-funded by the National Cultural Fund Administration (AFCN), implemented by Asociația Culturală Eastwards Prospectus, and lasts for 8 months (April-November 2024).
The project does not necessarily represent the position of the National Cultural Fund Administration. AFCN is not responsible for the content of the project or how the results of the project may be used. These are entirely the responsibility of the beneficiary of the funding.
